CREST, the Learned

Alignment: Evil
Domains: Greater God, called the God of Magic
Symbol: Crescent Moon
Appearance: Second eldest of the greater gods, Crest has been seen on the mortal plane as a greying, tanned elf in dark purple robes, and wielding a great staff he affectionately calls the Staff of Moons (an artifact Crest himself found amid the various items left by the ancestors). It is said that Crest's eyes are devoid of color but, if one looks closely, and few have dared, great sparks of energy are seen shooting out from their depths.

History: Crest is by far the most knowledgeable and powerful of the gods in the realm of magic. In the early days, while the other gods were warring with one another over who should be the supreme ruler among them, Crest disappeared and dedicated himself to the study of the gods' ancestors, and discovered Magic. Thus, it was Crest who first brought Magic to the gods, but for a price.

While Crest supported Phykrell and his pursuits, Crest had his own ambitions to pursue, including further study into the magic of the ancestors, for such magic could only make him more powerful. In exchange for his shared knowledge, the other greater gods created a moon fortress for Crest protected by various traps and an army of warriors. However, the god required to make the greatest sacrifice was Allanbay, who was forced to give up his beloved wife Sorn to Crest in exchange for the shared knowledge of magic. Crest imprisoned Sorn in his moon fortress, where she remains to this day.

Just as Crest brough Magic to the gods, it was his desire to also bring Magic to the mortal plane in order to strengthen his power through his followers. Thus, Crest sent Dark Angels called Arnde down to the mortal plane to seek out those worthy of learning the god's magic. Only 3 proved worthy, and none chose to follow Crest. Delrox chose Phykrell as his god, Morgane became the famed Guardian of the Keys, and Duskcaster became a dedicated follower of the pious Veldex.

Crest is also known for the part he played in the First War of Fate, where the god Tilsman, jealous of Crest and his increasing power, attempted to gain such power for himself and challenged Crest. Aided by a deceiving Walltell, Crest defeated Tilsman, wounding him in the face. It is said that Tilsman still bears the scars of his defeat.

Followers: Crest has possessed a great number of followers since the early days of the God's intervention with the mortal plane. It is rumored that even the great elven city destroyed by Sorn had a large number of followers devoted to Crest, and that he was increasing in popularity. To this day, the wood elves continue to have a large number among them that still follow the ways of Crest.

Like their god, the followers of Crest are a selfish lot, willing to got to great lengths in order to become more powerful in the ways of magic. The Crescent Order is the most popular and most organized group of Crest's followers. Since Crest has historically been a supporter of Phykrell, the Church of the Shroud permits the Order to exist and assemble, and is even known to consult with the Order on various matters pertaining to magic. Some of the Order's most powerful mages are also said to be involved in the Shroud political structure.
